Photography has always been a passion of ours, and then specifically black and white photography. We're keen portrait and street photographers ourselves, and keeping up with the work of contemporary photographers forms a big part of our daily inspiration. Someone we came across and whose feed we're now hooked on is photographer and author Nicolas Olivier, a Biarritz local.
Inspired by landscapes, seascapes and travel, Nicolas' photographic world consists of the slightly out of focus, slightly grainy black and white, and he does this like few others. Some of his images almost look like paintings, which ultimately is photography in its purest art form.
The result is often dreamy, somewhat otherworldly and always full of feeling.
Using different grain papers on which to print his images, Nicolas is able to enhance his visual style, giving his images a true and interesting texture.
He opened La Galerie last year at 25 Avenue Edouard VII in Biarritz, where he is currently exhibiting "REFLUX" , a collection focused on Biarritz: seascapes, surfers and sea lifestyle scenes in black and white or soft pastels.
Take a look at his site for more brilliant travel photography, keep up to date on Instagram @nicolasolivier_btz, and definitely swing by the gallery to see the exhibit. Nicolas is always happy to exchange ideas and discuss his work over a cup of coffee.
